About Craig
The first time I was paid for my woodworking was back in high school in the late 60s. I’ve been producing woodwork ever since. I graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1976 with a BS in industrial arts; however, teaching woodshop was not for me. After a year or two of ski bumming in Stowe, Vermont, I moved to Huntington, NY, where I bought a handyman house with a detached barn. I set up my wood shop, DBA Craig Becker Custom Carpentry. In addition to woodworking and finish carpentry, I’ve sailed a 52’ ketch across the Atlantic and throughout the Caribbean, instructed high-performance driving for the Metro, New York Porsche club, worked as a jazz musician, traveled extensively in Europe, the Caribbean, the United States, Mexico, and, thanks to my wife, Indahwati, Asia. Java, Thailand, Bali, China, Komodo Island— I’ve seen them all. They say your artwork is only as interesting as your life. I wouldn’t trade mine for anybody’s.
